The State of the Union
Your teachers give you report cards to show how you are doing in school . Each year , the president of the United States offers their version of a report card . It is called the State of the Union address .
The State of the Union address is a time for the president to discuss the country ’ s progress over the past year . It is also a time to look forward and talk about what the president would like to see happen in the coming year .
The State of the Union address usually covers a variety of topics , such as the economy and jobs , national defense , as well as special challenges that the country is facing . The president shares their views , and then later , politicians and citizens discuss whether they think the president ’ s ideas are sound or not . et ’ s imagine that you are going to make a speech about the “ state of you .” Use the activities on this page to think about the things you ’ ve done in the past year and what you hope to do in the year ahead .
